Recently, Think Safe AI, in collaboration with Rotary Interact Club and University of Fraser Valley's School of Computing, hosted an engaging workshop aimed at educating local high school students about the fundamentals of AI safety. The event took place in the heart of our community, gathering eager participants ready to explore the intricacies of artificial intelligence and its impact on society.
During the workshop, students were introduced to key concepts of AI safety, which included discussions surrounding ethical considerations, alignment, biases, privacy concerns, and the importance of transparency in AI development.
In addition to learning about AI safety fundamentals, UFV's Assistant Professor Faisal Naeem introduced students to various career paths available in the field of artificial intelligence. The students expressed great interest in these career opportunities, engaging with workshop leaders through Q&A sessions that explored paths they could take as they continue their education. The event fostered a sense of excitement and possibility, inspiring attendees to consider futures where they can contribute to making AI technologies safer and more responsible.
Think Safe AI envisions this workshop as part of an ongoing series intended to further educate and involve our community in the evolving landscape of artificial intelligence. Future events will delve deeper into practical applications and ethical challenges, encouraging students to become informed advocates for safety in technology.
We want to thank the Rotary Interact Club, UFV School of Computing and all the students who participated and contributed to the insightful discussions.
